(Reuters) – The Facilities for Illness Management and Prevention (CDC) stated on Friday that COVID subvariant JN.1 accounts for about 62% of circumstances within the U.S. as of Jan. 5, based on the company’s projections.
The company stated JN.1, which is an offspring of BA.2.86, is now probably the most extensively circulated variant within the U.S. and globally.
It’s also the dominant variant in Europe and is rising sharply in Asia, the CDC stated.
The expected vary of 55% to 68% of circumstances is a rise from the estimated prevalence of 39% to 50% of circumstances within the U.S. projected by the CDC as of Dec. 23.
